Now and not yet
The Kingdom of God has come, we have access to the power!
Jesus will come again
He will come in glory, He will reward (Matt.16:27)
What will it be like to live in the presence of God
Together with God, Total Joy, Total light, creation restored, total purity, we will bear His name, Live with Him, serve and reign (Rev. 22:3,5)
The fall restored
Reunited with God, death abolished, joy returns, full relationship with God again!

Implications for life NOW!
1. Live a life worthy of the calling (Ephesians 4:1-5)
2. Worship God – Rev 22:9
3. Get right with God – accept the gospel (Romans 6:23)

God's Presence - Christ Incarnate - His example for today! (Murray Golder)

What is incarnation anyway?

Latin word ‘incarnare’ – to make flesh – think of carnivore or chilli con carne!!

Immanuel -God with us, God in a body.

“Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man in one person, and will be so forever.”

This is the perfect balance of two natures in one being (the Hypostatic union)

FULLY HUMAN
Born of a virgin (Matt. 1:18-20, Lk 1:35)

Fulfilling God’s promise of a redeemer through the seed of man (Gen. 3:15)

God chose perfect option so we can identify with Him and so He identified fully with us!

FULLY GOD
The virgin birth also makes Christ’s full humanity possible without the baggage of inherited sin!

A few Scripture verses for backup: (use them!!)
Matt. 1:23 “and they will call him Immanuel which means, “God with us”
Jn 10:30 “I and the Father are one”
Phil 2:6 “Who being in very nature God…”
Col. 2:9 “For in Christ all the fullness of the deity lives in bodily form.”
Col 1:15 “He is the image of the invisible God”

HEBREWS 4:14-16 – 3 ways Jesus models heavenly living on earth (for us to see!)
1. Gone through the heavens – Jesus our example of heavenly living on earth
2. Tempted in every way yet without sin
3. Approach the throne with confidence – to receive mercy & grace in time of need!

God wants us to live right with Him, so:
Live as VICTORS, not VICTIMS.
Come to God with burdens and find rest
Listen out for God to lead and guide, use opportunities given.

God's Presence - Kingdom of God - Now and not yet (Murray Golder)

This week exploring God’s presence through the New Testament phrase ‘Kingdom of God’

What does it mean? How does it impact me? What is the history of the term?

Gods Presence in the OT – Kingdom of God always meant Gods – Rule, Reign, Power.
Shown in OT – God dwelt in tabernacle / Led His people / Empowered certain people by His Spirit for certain tasks – heaven touching earth!

Kingdom of God in NT – Powered by the Holy Spirit.

Began with the Holy Spirit falling on Jesus at His baptism.
Jesus then passes on authority to disciples and 72 for specific moments and tasks (Luke 10)
Kingdom of God came to ALL – Pentecost, again through the Holy Spirit – a lasting presence!
NOW – we have authority and the Kingdom of God is present in our lives to overcome sin, defeat Satan, cast out demons, heal the sick…
THIS is heaven touching earth – The kingdom of God is God displaying the perfection of heaven here on earth, challengin the spiritual status quo! – but is incomplete…
NOT YET – It will only be complete when Christ comes again. Perfect and holy with no death or sin or sorrow!
What we have now depends on:
relationship with God
The extent we allow God to control our lives
Our willingness to ‘Let God Lead’ – our sacrifice
How much we expect God to do through us…
His will being done – are we praying according to the will of God?
1 Cor. 4:20 “The kingdom of God is not in word, but in POWER!”

“The Shekinah glory of God (is) the radiance, glory or presence of God dwelling in the midst of His people.” (NBD)

God Balances His: Transcendence – Being above and independent of the material universe – Holy, glorious and distant.
with His; Immanence – His presence and activity within nature, with humans, and in history – Tender, compassionate and close.

Garden #1 – Eden – God with Adam and Eve till the fall – separation from God
Mountain #1 – Moses sees God at Sinai
Mountain #2 – Peter, John, James see Jesus transfigured on the Mount of Olives
Garden #2 – Gethsemane – Jesus prepares to make a way back to God
City #1 – Jerusalem – Holy City – “ Now the dwelling of God will be with men” (Rev. 21:3)

We each have a final destination, we need to help others to make it to the Holy City to live united with God forever

God's Presence - One to one with God - Old Testament (Murray Golder)

Looking at how God met ‘face to face’ with Adam, then the fall eliminated that close fellowship, limiting God’s one to one’s with only a few OT people, then finally looking at how Jesus has restored that relationship with God. Now, as His Holy Spirit lives in us, we have intimacy with God every day!

God’s presence
1. With Perfect man
2. With Fallen man – OT
3. With us today

Conclusion
Adam – Perfect relationship with God
Old Testament – Men of faith, living with a hidden God
Today – Jesus living in us, No veil required, access to God through Jesus! Reflecting God’s glory increasingly!

The book of Joshua has been given to us as a church as a visual illustration of hoe God is going before us to prepare the way for us to work in our local community. God says He will give us the land where we set our feet!

Here at the end of Joshua he asks the people again to re-commit their lives to God as a stark reminder of how we can lose our devotion to God along life’s way.

Joshua reminds us of our choices:
Choice – why not force?
God wants willing followers
Challenge commitment

Joshua reminds the people of God’s rescue plan and provision?

Joshuas 3 Requests: ‘Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness.’ 24:14
Fear – form of worship
Follow (serve) – obey His commands
Faithful – Don’t turn to other gods

RESPONSE – ‘But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.’ 24:15
Joshua sets the example
The people follow – 3x (v. 18, 21, 24)
Joshua challenges, they stand firm!

Our RESPONSE:
Acknowledge God’s work in your life
Agree your need to change
Thank God for His presence & power
Trust Him to supply our needs.

When we begin the cycle from achievement and that giving us our significance and ultimately our acceptance then we are running the wrong way!

The cycle needs to run the right direction.
Acceptance (from God) – Sustenance (God’s word) – Significance (in Christ) – Achievement (by God’s standards!)

How is your cycle running?
‘Freely you have received, freely give’
RECEIVE first, then you are equipped to GIVE!

We are ‘clothed with Christ’ (Gal. 3:27)

We are promised freedom, we just need to accept it and LIVE IT!

God sees only our POTENTIAL!

God says of you:

In God you are secure, He says:

He’s not interested in what you WERE,
He will make you NEW!!

OUR ACTION POINTS TODAY –
Let God lead!
Ask God to reveal to you how He wants to use you!
Pray for God’s revelation and the strength to carry it out!
