Gritty gospel

Posted: Aug 11, 2008 by Matt

It’s not often that I’m shocked by the way Christians present the gospel message. I think that’s because we have the tendency to present the gospel to as a middle-class message to ‘nice‘ people. We rarely need to use the gospel to tackle the hardcore issues of life because we rarely mix with the kinds of people who have faced hardcore issues (rape and abuse) in our everyday lives (or we don’t think we have).

Mark Driscoll is about to release this book: Death by love that deliberately takes the gospel and shows how someone who’s addicted to porn, someone possessed by demons, someone beaten by their father, someone raped by their boyfriend can understand the gospel. When twee explanations of the gospel will not do, a hardcore explanation of the gospel is needed. Take a look at the video to see what I mean. It’s certainly not what I’m used to. Just a brief warning, that this video is probably not suitable for children.
