Mormons

Posted: Aug 25, 2008 by Matt

Recently we had some Mormons come knocking at our door. Phil was at work and it was only me at home, and as usual (unless you’re quite blunt or don’t answer the door) I ended up having quite a long conversation with them. The short story is that they invited themselves back for a second visit.

While talking to them I was quite challenged that I don’t view them as lost people – people who need to hear about the true Jesus and why he died. I often just think of Mormons as people who already have their beliefs, and are so indoctrinated that there’s little chance of them coming to faith in Jesus. I was really challenged about this, and so in the last week Phil and I have done some research into Mormonism in preparation for our meeting.

We have found a great website called Living Hope Ministries run by a small Christian church in Utah (Mormon capital). They produce videos (and other resources) in relation to the Church of the Latter Day Saints. You can find links to some videos below, they are really great productions and very informative.

I’d really encourage you to take the time to watch these videos, particularly the first one The Bible vs. The Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is sometimes called "a companion volume to the Bible._" But can this be true? Do the Bible and the Book of Mormon agree?

Some other videos

  • Lifting the Veil on Polygamy. The modern LDS Church rejects polygamy, but their fundamentalist "cousins" embrace it as a requirement for salvation. What is the mainstream Mormon church hiding?
  • DNA vs. The Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon claims Native Americans are descended from Israelites. What does DNA science have to say about this doctrine?
  • Comparing Mormon & Christian Doctrine. Lastly this is a link to a page that compares Mormon and Christian Doctrine, in a clear way.
