Hangin' out

Discipleship sums up what Jesus told his disciples to go and do after he left.  In Matthew 28, Jesus says: Go and make disciples of all nations.  Discipleship sums up what we do - but what exactly is discipleship?  It sounds quite impressive to 'disciple' someone.  In my mind, I get images of Yoda discipling his young Padawan, Luke Skywalker.  Yoda was extremely gifted and wise and it's tempting to think that in Christian terms, you have to be as godly as Jesus to even attempt to disciple anyone.  But of course that's not true.  If God chose the foolish things of this world to confound the wise, discipleship isn't for guru's, it's for us mere morals.

News roundup

It was great to have Alasdair Kay with us on Sunday. Alasdair spoke on God's love for the city.  You can listen to Alasdair's talk in the podcast section of our website.  We've even added an 'in-page' flash player to the podcasts section so that you don't have to download the talk to listen to it now, you can just play whichever talk you want to listen to directly on the website.  We've also added this player to the web resources section (good mp3 sermons on the web), so you can play other people's sermons on our website too.

Mormons

Posted: August 26th, 2008 by Samara

Recently we had some Mormons come knocking at our door.  Phil was at work and it was only me at home, and as usual (unless you're quite blunt or don't answer the door) I ended up having quite a long conversation with them.  The short story is that they invited themselves back for a second visit.

Gritty gospel

Posted: August 12th, 2008 by Matt

It's not often that I'm shocked by the way Christians present the gospel message. I think that's because we have the tendency to present the gospel to as a middle-class message to 'nice' people.  We rarely need to use the gospel to tackle the hardcore issues of life because we rarely mix with the kinds of people who have faced hardcore issues (rape and abuse) in our everyday lives (or we don't think we have).

Hot on the tail of our new podcasts launch, we're now live in iTunes.  All of the podcasted talks available from the podcasts section of the website are also available here.  Click this link: Feed Your Soul iTunes Podcast to see our podcast.  You'll need to install iTunes which is completely free to download for PC or Mac in order to see it, but once you do you'll be impressed.
